Progesterone is a precursor of testosterone. Men do produce the hormone progesterone in smaller amounts than women but it is still important for the prostate gland along with estradiol and testosterone.
 
Hormones are chemical messengers between cells. They travel through the blood and enter cells through receptor sites. Only the right hormone fits into the receptor. A “non-identical” key e.g. synthetic hormone can not open the switch. Hormones are meant to be in balance with each other(not a certain amount of any given hormone but a ratio). When they are not, they can cause disease.
Saliva testing can help identify hormone imbalances. As men age the testosterone/estrogen ration can change as testosterone declines and estrogen levels rise leading to estrogen dominance. Estrogen dominance can lead to andropause or male menopause. Symptoms can include fatigue, sleep disturbance, depression, decreased libido, decreased urine flow, abdominal fat, thinning hair. The goal of hormone balancing in men is to establish a healthy ratio between estradiol, progesterone and testosterone.
 
Progesterone inhibits 5-alpha-reductase, an enzyme that causes testosterone to change to DHT(dihydotestosterone) which is thought to cause prostate enlargement or BPH . Suggested Use: Apply to soft skin areas (see brochure). Massage well into skin. Use 1/2 teaspoon A.M. and P.M. for three weeks each month; (do not use one week). After three months, reduce amount to 1/4 teaspoon and continue as usual.  Saliva testing is important.
